In March 2026, futurist and Forbes contributor Bernard Marr warned that AI swarm attacks are coming—not as science fiction, but as the next logical step in cybercrime powered by autonomous AI agents. In his widely cited Forbes analysis, Marr described how coordinated AI systems could automate the entire attack lifecycle, from reconnaissance to data theft, operating continuously without human control (Forbes).

The statement struck a chord because it reflects a real shift already underway. Cyber threats are becoming faster, more automated, and more scalable, even if truly massive “swarms” remain mostly emerging rather than fully widespread today.


How Cyberattacks Are Quietly Changing

For years, cyberattacks were largely human‑driven. Hackers worked in teams, scanned systems manually, and adjusted methods slowly. Artificial intelligence reduces these limitations.

Security researchers and vendors now observe AI being used to automate vulnerability scanning, generate malware variants, test attacks, and adjust tactics when defenses change.
